Official Launch of Regaining My Balance Campaign

Date: 22 August 2006

The Malaysian Psychiatric Association (MPA) has organized a campaign entitled "Regaining My Balance" in cooperation with AstraZeneca.

The date of the launch is 22nd August 2006.

Campaign theme

Regaining My Balance: Bringing New Hope for Patients with Bipolar Disorder

Rationale for the campaign

  • A relatively high rate of wrong diagnosis (commonly misdiagnosed as depression) prevails due to a lack of understanding of this disorder.

  • Bipolar disorder can be disabling to a patient as it interferes with their daily lives.

  • Nonetheless, this disorder can be treated successfully and lead to better outcomes for bipolar sufferers with proper education and exposure.

    Objectives

  • To create a greater level of awareness on bipolar disorder among the public and bipolar sufferers.

  • To advocate better disease management strategies and encourage those with the disorder to seek treatment.

    Proposed activities

  • Revised MPA website

    - This will be unveiled at the 19th World Congress of Psychotherapy (WCP) with the intention of providing further information on bipolar disorder to the public.

  • Patient workshops

    - In conjunction with the MPA’s efforts to educate patients suffering from this disorder, a number of local hospitals will be participating in this event.

If you wish to find out more about the activities, please download the attached document for further information. There is also a brochure in both English and Bahasa Malaysia with information about Bipolar Disorder for downloading.
