MPA SECTION NEWS
I would like to think of SYP as the ‘SaYaP’ of MPA. It has a very beautiful and significant meaning. In Malay language ‘sayap’ means ‘wings’, hence the term would beautifully signify that young psychiatrists are the wings of MPA…! The wings that soaring it higher. With young energy and stamina. With passion and enthusiasm. Yes, it should be that way, and that way is what we want it to be. We want to make the organization as useful as possible to the members and to the society in return. We would like to attract many young psychiatrists and trainees so that the organization can be activated to its fullest.”

MPA SECTION NEWS
On the 26th July 2010, a workshop entitled “Short Course on Leadership and Professional Skills Development for Young Psychiatrists and Trainees” was held in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur Mental Health Conference. It was a joint effort between the Section on Young Psychiatrists or the SaYaP (Wings) of the Malaysian Psychiatric Association and the staff of Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health, Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

CIRCLE OF CARE
Stigma is a negative social response evoked by the perception of a negative difference in the
attribute or behaviour of an individual (Goffman, 1963). Professor Kua Ee Heok has rightly
pointed out in his book entitled “Speaking Up For Mental Health” that if a society continues
to be fearful of the mentally ill, then patients who have recovered will not have any chance of
surviving in a hostile community plagued by bigotry.

TRAVELOGUE
Exactly 65 years ago, the sky was very clear and the sun was bright in the early morning of 6th August, 1945. Life was as usual and little did anyone in Hiroshima know that all clocks and watches in Hiroshima would stop at 8.15 am that day. ‘Little Boy’ as it was being nick-named, had caused a massive mushroom explosion in one of the worst man-made disaster in history.
