arrow REACH e-CME modules - Help achieve REACH's objectives

30-08-2010
Dear MPA Members,

The REACH e-CME modules system was officially launched during 15th MCPM 2010 on 24th June 2010 and is an online e-Learning system based on the REACH CME Modules developed in cooperation with MPA’s REACH Consultative Board.

The online e-Learning system aims to complement, support and fulfill the objectives of the REACH program, which are to:

  • Facilitate the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder
  • Discuss the optimal use of present therapies and current best practice
  • Increase awareness of the challenges in the treatment of bipolar disorder and the need for improvement
  • Identify ways to improve care and find solutions for unmet needs in the management of bipolar disorder
  • Communicate solutions through the development of tools that reach both clinicians and patients

Your kind participation in completing the online modules will greatly contribute towards achieving these objectives.

Upon your completion of all 6 REACH e-CME modules, you will receive:

  • “Managing Bipolar Disorder in Clinical Practice” by Eduard Vieta – first 50 completers

  • Certificate of Completion

To participate, please click on http://www.psychiatry-malaysia.org to log on to MPA’s website and then click on the REACH icon on the right side of the homepage to register or login to the system.

Please send us any feedback or comments you may have about the REACH e-CME modules to info@psychiatry-malaysia.org.

Bridging the Gap Between Healthcare Professionals and Patients - A Pilot Malaysian Study

Levels of awareness and understanding of mental health disorders and treatment in Malaysia are low. This is especially true for mental disorders, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This situation is exacerbated by the: Social stigma placed on people with mental health disorders and cultural barriers Lack of adequate infrastructure and resources to deliver required counseling, therapy and patient care to mental health patients Under-reporting of mental health disorders in mainstream news media.

To date, there is no research-based insight on the challenges in understanding, diagnosing and treating mental health disorders or patients’ perspectives specifically in Malaysia. Hence, this Malaysian-centric study was designed to raise the understanding of one mental health disorder – bipolar disorder.

The survey covered four key areas: public awareness; diagnosis; treatment; and access to information.
